Power Diva Jessica Villarubin, who emerged as the grand champ of “The Clash” Season 3, beats another fight against her insecurities.
Ako Naman is the singer’s first single under GMA Music.

It was also the winning piece in the grand finals of Entertainment’s award-winning “The Clash.” The song was penned by Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista.
“I’m so thankful that I recognized myself in Christian and felt composed in his presence. I feel comfortable and happy at the thought that I was able to connect with the listeners on what I’ve grown up listening to, and where I had the opportunity to write about that.”
Villarubin won a lot of attention with her new song, but she really gained it when she unveiled her new look and revealed she underwent beauty enhancements in order to get it.
“This is what I wanted to do with myself. Dati kasi binu-bully ako and nawala din yung confidence ko. Dati sinasabi sa akin na magaling ka lang kumanta, [pero] pangit ka. Pag naga-audition ako hindi ako natatanggap. So I doubted myself dati.”
Villarubin said despite the bullying, she continued to strive for a positive attitude by focusing on the people who adore her for being who she is. Yet the desire to act on it always hurt inside, she conceded.
“Naii-isip ko siya dati pa, na magpa-enhance kasi I want to be more confident with myself, kasi naco-conscious ako on how I look.”
With the help of celebrity doctor Vicky Belo and her clinic, Belo Medical Group, Villarubin had rhinoplasty and enhancement on her eyes and face.
“Ngayon I feel like I’m a new Jessica na super confident. Dati naman confident na ako, pero iba talaga ngayon. Happy ako sa naging decision ko.”
Very much aware of the backlash she might get, especially in the conservative Philippines where plastic surgery is still a taboo, the singer shared she had to also prepare emotionally before getting her procedure.
“Ni-ready ko yung self ko bago ito gawin sa sarili ko, lahat naman ng tao may opinion, may masasabi sila, yung iba magiging masaya pero yung iba din hindi.
“Ako, iniisip ko rin naman yung sarili ko, kung saan ako masaya atsaka yung mga taong sumusuporta sa akin like my family na super supportive sa journey ko. That’s what I am focusing on,” Villarubin ended.
“Ako Naman” is now available on Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, and other digital streaming platforms worldwide.
